Police has clarified the reported arrest of DJ Switch

The Lagos State Police Command has apologised to Obianuju Udeh known as DJ Switch over a false report of her arrest.

The Police had earlier announced the arrest of DJ Switch for allegedly assaulting a female officer in the Lekki area of Lagos state.

Lagos Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, however, issued a post on X to tender an apology to DJ Switch while clarifying the report of her arrest.

“There is a mixup from our end. Arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei, not DJ Switch,” Hundeyin said.

“Apologies for all inconveniences to a few media outfits like Lindaikeji, BBC and TVC that I gave confirmation this morning. Apologies to DJ Switch too.”

DJ Switch who became popular during the EndSARS protest in Lagos in 2020 also took to her X handle on Thursday to refute the report of her arrest.

“I was woken up by a barrage of calls and text this morning. I wondered why because I know today is not my birthday. Only to find that I have been arrested,” she said.

“One of the links that was sent to me alleged that I had assaulted the police.

“Now, while I am not a fan of many of our police men and women, I do not condone nor do I support violence against the police.”

She also hit out at a section of the Nigerian media for not being investigative enough before publishing their reports.

“Our blogs have such an unhealthy appetite for traffic that they cant even spend the transport fare it would cost them to go investigate and make certain of the news they share to the public,” she added.

“These false reporting is dangerous and negatively shapes narratives.

“Many people want so badly to believe I am just like those Ive fought against or believing that I have sacrificed all I have ever worked for just to bring down Nigeria. This is false.”

She said her lawyers have made screenshots of every blog that published the false news to likely pursue a case of defamation of her character.
