Rivers United defeated Enugu Rangers in their last outing in the NPFL¦last weekend.

Kwara United won the game played at the Ilorin Township Stadium 1-0. But the NPFL has charged the club for providing false information, which led to a fixture adjustment that disrupted the live television broadcast schedule of the game.

In a two-count summary jurisdiction,  the Ilorin-based club was charged with breach of Rule C1.1 and B6.23, which attracts a total fine of N6 million.

The NPFL said in a statement yesterday, Kwara United caused their scheduled Match Day 31 fixture against Akwa United to be moved from Saturday, April 20 to Sunday, April 21, citing a letter claiming that the state government had planned an event at the stadium.

It turned out that there was no such activity by the state government at the stadium which rather hosted a lower league fixture.

The NPFL imposed a fine of N1million on Kwara United for misconduct, while N5 million was the fine for disruption of a live broadcast.

The club has 48 hours from the date of the notice to either submit to the decision or elect to appear before a disciplinary panel in line with Rule C26.

Any such decision is to be communicated in writing to the NPFL while the club must pay the fine within seven working days should the decision not be contested, the NPFL said.

Rivers United will begin the race to offset their six outstanding games of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) when they host Katsina United today at the Adokie Aimiesiamaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The Pride of Rivers accumulated six outstanding games during their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, a competition they exited at the quarterfinal stage following a 2-1 aggregate loss to Algerias USMA.

To bring the Port Harcourt-based club at par with others in the NPFL, the league body has staggered the outstanding games to suit all the clubs involved.

While others have played 31 matches, Rivers United have played only 25 games. This accounts for the clubs 16th position on the NPFL log with 37 points.

The club believes that victories in at least four of the outstanding games would put them in the race for a continental ticket at the end of the season.

Enugu Rangers (54 points), Enyimba (52), Lobi Stars (52), Plateau United (50), Remo Stars (50) and Shooting Stars (49) are currently first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth on the log respectively.

The first two teams at the end of the season qualify for the CAF Champions League, while the third team will represent the country in the CAF Confederation.
