Man gets nine-month in jail for assaulting Lagos Corps

A man identified as Paul Opemipo has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for failing to use the pedestrian bridge in Lagos State.

Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on his X handle.

Opemipo was sentenced on Wednesday, 17 April 2024, by the Mobile Court sitting at Oshodi.

According to Wahab, Opemipo was arrested on Tuesday, 16th of April for not using the pedestrian bridge at Agbado Oke Odo.

After his arrest, the 29-year-old assaulted and wounded enforcement personnel of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps.

Also on Tuesday, 16 April, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC),56 other offenders for crossing the highways.

They were arrested at Supa Ile Epo, Lagos, Ladipo, Oshodi Oke, Onipanu, Iyana Ipaja, and Ojota areas of the state.

In March, 73 individuals were arrested for crossing highways without using the provided pedestrian bridges.

Also, they were apprehended for misusing pedestrian bridges as accommodation and engaging in other illegal activities.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government dislcosed that it arrested and prosecuted no fewer than 219 persons for crossing expressways in different parts of the state in March.
