The Federal Airport Authority (FAAN) has taken swift action following a fire incident at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, resulting in the diversion of all flight operations to the D Wing of the airport.

The incident, which occurred around 5:29 am on Thursday, saw smoke emanating from the E54 bridge, prompting immediate response from airport authorities.

In a statement issued by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, it was revealed that the airport’s engineers promptly disconnected power from the entire E Wing to contain the fire. The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team swiftly arrived at the scene at 05:30 hrs, restoring calm after initial panic among airport staff and travelers.

While initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, a comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. The incident, which escalated into a fire, was successfully brought under control by 06:41 hrs. Efforts to ventilate the smoke from the affected area are currently ongoing.

As a precautionary measure, all flight operations in Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed Airport have been redirected to the D Wing. FAAN reassures the public that more details will be provided as the situation develops.

This incident underscores the importance of swift emergency response protocols and thorough investigations to ensure the safety of airport facilities and passengers. Authorities remain vigilant in implementing necessary measures to prevent future occurrences of such incidents.
