Players and officials of Warri Wolves and Delta Queens FC are smiling to the bank following the clearance of backlog of their salary and match bonuses by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

For six months, players of Warri Wolves operated without salaries, while their female counterparts in Delta Queens played for four months without pay and other remunerations.

Delta Queens, who won the Nigeria Women Football League last year, managed to escape relegation this year owing to what the players described as poor funding.

However, Governor Oborevwori came to the teams rescue on Thursday evening, as he ordered immediate payment of their four-month salary as well as other expenses.

A source close to Delta Sports Commission told The Guardian, yesterday, that players of Warri Wolves were paid six months salaries and bonuses, while Delta Queens got their four months salaries and bonuses.

According to the source, the newly appointed Director General of the Sports Commission, Festus Ohwojero, paid the money to the players banks account directly as against the usual method where the Sports Commission pays to the clubs account and the players are paid by the management of the clubs.

Meanwhile, Warri Wolves FC has moved into the round of 32 in the ongoing Federations Cup after walloping their opponent Luatai FC 5-1 in their round of 64 tie.

First half goals from Eremosele Palepa, Collins Onovughe and Malik Jabber helped Warri Wolves to the round of 32.
