Delta State athletes
Delta State athletes and officials have called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to constitute the Sports Commission board to enable them prepare well for this years National Youth Games, which the state is hosting soon.
Delta hosted the 2023 edition of the National Youth Games after Kwara hosted it five times. At the closing ceremony of Games last year, Delta State government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Sports to host the subsequent four editions of the Games (from 2023 to 2026).
In preparation for this years Games, Sports Ministry officials from Abuja are expected in Asaba next week for an on-the-spot assessment of facilities and state of readiness by Delta State government.
The Delta Sports Commission has been without a board since February 11, when the tenure of former chairman, Tonobok Okowa expired.
Some of the athletes, who spoke with The Guardian, yesterday, pleaded with Governor Oborevwori to constitute the board as quickly as possible to enable them commence good preparation for both the National Youth Games and Gateway 2024 National Sports Festival slated for Abeokuta.
