Nigeria’s average healthy diet food cost increased to N938 per day in February from N858 in January 2024.

On Thursday, the National Bureau of Statistics disclosed its February Cost of A Healthy Diet, CoHD report in collaboration with Gain Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition.

The report stated that the average CoHD was highest in the South West at N1,157 per adult per day, compared to N723 per adult per day in the West.

The development comes amid the rising cost of food items in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the report explained that CoHD is not directly comparable to the Consumer Price Index, which stood at 31.70 per cent in February 2024.

“In recent months, the CoHD has risen faster than general inflation and food inflation. However, the CoHD and the food CPI are not directly comparable; the CoHD includes fewer items and is measured in Naira per day, while the food CPI is a weighted index.

The report said the food CPI increased approximately 4 per cent between January and February 2024, while CoHD increased by 9 per cent”.
