The Oyo State Police Command has announced that it is investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 22nd, at a popular nightclub along the “Under G” area of Owode-Ogbomoso.

The police, in a statement on Thursday, said the shooting incident claimed the life of one Iyanda Damilola.

A distress call, according to the police, was received from the director of the nightclub, reporting suspected student cultists harassing guests and destroying club property.

The command noted that upon arriving at the scene, shots were reportedly fired from multiple directions, including warning shots by the officers to disperse onlookers.

In a swift response to the call by the club director, a team of officers led by one Insp. Rasheed Saheed arrived at the scene, the police said.

The fracas worsened as deliberate efforts were made by the suspected cultists to prevent police fromgaining access into the Crime-Scene while shots were allegedly fired from different angles, including from the intervening officers who fired warning shots to disperse onlookers.

The incident, however, resulted in the death of one Iyanda Damilola and the injury of his brother, Iyanda Femi Isreal, who has since recovered after receiving medical treatment.

Police said it awaits the result of the post-motem on the deceased to further assist with the investigation.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police has ordered the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.

While the Deputy Commissioner of Police is directly overseeing the investigation, all the officers involved in the incident, including Inspr. Rasheed Saheed, are currently under detention at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku.

The command, however, assures members of the public, particularly the student community, of the swift dispensation of justice.
