Brian Monachimso Nwana (middle) is attempting to visit over 120 restaurants in Abuja within 24 hours and set a new Guinness World Record.

A Nigerian food content creator and director of Brian’s Abuja Food Quest, Brian Monachimso Nwana, has announced his intention to break a Guinness World Record (GWR) by visiting over 120 restaurants in Abuja within 24 hours.

This attempt aims to surpass a record set by an American simply known as Airrack in New York City, who visited 100 restaurants within the same timeframe.

According to the GWR website, Airrack visited 100 fast food restaurants in 24 hours from 29-30 December 2023. The website added that while Airrack could have visited any fast food restaurant, he chose to only visit counter-service pizzerias during his attempt.

Now, a Nigerian is seeking to break the record by visiting well over the number of restaurants visited by Airrack almost four months ago.

It comes just days after another Nigerian, Tunde Onakoya, set a record of 58 hours of non-stop chess in New York City. Onakoyas record, which shattered the previous record set in 2018 by Norwegians Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56 hours, and 9 minutes, is yet to be verified by GWR. It sometimes takes weeks for the organisation to confirm a new record.

Mr Nwana, who now wants to etch his name in the GWR, revealed his strategy at a press conference in Abuja, indicating that the journey will cover the Gwarinpa, Maitama, and Wuse areas of the Nigerian capital. Aside from attempting to break the record, Mr Nwana said his goal is to promote the businesses of these restaurants and increase their visibility on a global scale.

The record-breaking attempt is set to begin on Wednesday, April 24, at Chicken Republic, 1st Avenue in Gwarinpa, and will end on Thursday, April 25, at a restaurant in the Central Business District by 5 p.m. During this time, Mr Nwana will be trekking over 20 kilometers with his team across the selected areas, as the use of cars or unrecognised public transportation systems is prohibited by the GWR rules.

Mr Nwanas mission to break the record is driven by his passion for promoting businesses, using the power of social media to showcase the various foods and cuisines to attract a broader audience. He has called upon Abuja residents to support his quest by coming out to cheer him on.

The CEO of A.S. Management Agency, Rhoda Kusimo, emphasised that the quest will help bring more recognition to Abuja businesses on a global level. The Project Manager, Edoh Franklin, noted that the team has applied to the GWR and will adhere to all recommended rules and regulations, including live tracking and mapping.

Additionally, security measures have been put in place by Pollyn Fubara, the Head of Security, to ensure the safety of the team and fans during the quest, particularly during the night when vehicular and human traffic can pose risks. This involves coordination with security agencies to maintain order and safety throughout the journey.
