Since the introduction of Elon Musk’s satellite internet, Starlink, there has been back and forth debates about whether it can save Africans from their network troubles.

While many have been purchasing it in Africa even illegal means,  there have been debates surrounding it, between tech personnels about the advantages and disadvantages of the network. Many consumers have complained about how expensive it is, but they’re quite satisfied with the internet speed.

“AfricaTechie” and CEO of Appstech, Rebecca Enonchong has her opinion about Starlink and she took to her X account formerly Twitter, to share her opinion which in turn triggered other opinions by fellow X users.

“What is sad in this whole @Starlink debate is that in most places where it is approved, it’s not the best and least expensive solution, especially not for businesses. When it rains hard, the service is severely impacted.

It’s used primarily for remote locations that don’t have access to proper fibre or 4G/5G.” – She tweeted.

Despite these downsides of Starlink stated by Rebecca, she admitted that for a country like Cameroon with slow internet, Starlink is best and she hopes government can approve Starlink there.

“…but in places like Cameroon where internet service is mediocre at best, Starlink emerges as this incredible savior! People experienced internet as it’s supposed to be for the first time! While I hope that the government will approve Starlink, at least provisionally. The real solution is in improving our fibre capacity. We have the technology, let’s use it!”

Enonchong who is instrumental in many technological works in Africa, however believes that improving our fiber capacity is still the best way out.
