The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recently announced an extension for the registration of Direct Entry (DE) for the year 2024. This development comes in the wake of ongoing efforts to ensure that every Nigerian student has access to quality higher education.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Advisor of JAMB, conveyed this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. He emphasized the board’s commitment to preventing any Nigerian child from being denied the opportunity for quality higher education.

Initially scheduled to end on April 11, the registration period for 2024 Direct Entry was extended by two weeks due to a surge in registration activities, particularly in Lagos, as candidates sought to meet the original deadline.

Dr. Benjamin urged candidates who are yet to register for Direct Entry to remain calm as the board would soon announce a new closing date. He highlighted the importance of this extension, especially considering the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) taking place across the country.

In his words, “The board will soon announce a new date for the end of this years DE registration, and so, candidates should relax, but ensure they register as soon as possible.”

Speaking about the ongoing UTME, Benjamin lauded it as the best in the history of public examinations in Nigeria. He expressed satisfaction with how the examination had unfolded, meeting the board’s expectations.

Benjamin also addressed cases of candidates unable to sit for the examination due to verification issues. He assured that the board would review such cases on their merit, ensuring fairness in the process.

Acknowledging the support of various partners such as the NIMC (National Identity Management Commission) and security agencies, Benjamin commended their contributions to the success of the UTME. The public communication adviser, specifically praised the NIMC for its pivotal role in enhancing registration processes and curbing malpractice.
