Fierce battle in Kwara APC over alleged removal of Bolarinwa as caretaker chairman

A fierce battle has erupted for the soul of Kwara State All Progressives Congress, APC, as claims and counter claims continue over the purported removal of the State caretaker committee chairman, Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa by a faction of the party.

DAILY POST reports that, on Monday, a faction of the party reported that Bolarinwa, who was appointed by the national body of the party led by Buni led committee, had been removed and replaced by Abdullahi Samari Abubakar, the deputy chairman.

However, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, another group of stakeholders, denounced the purported removal of Bolarinwa, “warning of dire consequences.”

The stakeholders who signed the press statement jointly included Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh, Lukman Mustapha, and Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo among others.

They insisted and affirmed that “Bolarinwa remains the only recognised and duly sworn in caretaker committee chairman of our party, in line with the NEC resolution E December 8, 2020, and subsequently sworn in on December 11, 2020, in Abuja, with the rest of his colleagues from other states across the federation.”

“We thus, by this release denounce the purported removal as a baseless rumour, which holds no water and at best, the figment of the imagination of the peddlers, who are hellbent on hijacking the party’s structure through the back door,” the stakeholders added.

Our Correspondent in Ilorin reports that, a letter dated January 4, 2021, written to Abdullahi Samari Abubakar, which announced his appointment has circulated widely.

The letter signed by the national secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, caretaker/extraordinary convention planning committee of APC, claimed that Bolarinwa was removed on the ground of anti-party allegations.

It reads in part; ” Please kindly be notified that, following the allegations of anti-party levelled against the erstwhile chairman of our party in Kwara State, and his purported suspension by his erstwhile executives, the National Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has directed that I convey to you, the approval of the CECPC of your appointment as the chairman caretaker committee of our party in Kwara State, pending the outcome of investigation into the matter.

“By this appointment, you are to superintend over the affairs of the party in Kwara State forthwith.

“Your appointment is in furtherance of the resolution of the NEC of our party arising from its meeting of 8th December, 2020,” the letter added.

Efforts by DAILY POST to reach embattled Bolarinwa and Samari through phone calls and text messages proved abortive.

The Senior pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has urged politicians to bury their 2023 presidential ambitions until Nigeria returns to a normal state.

Giwa advised politicians jostling for the 2023 presidency to urgently assemble together and solve the salient issues in the country.

He spoke while addressing his members in Akure and was contained in a statement sent to DAILY POST on Sunday.

The pastor predicted that Nigeria might collapse before 2023 if politicians ignored warnings in tackling some challenges currently facing the country.

He said: “Don’t forget I told you that the political entities would split into smaller parts ahead of 2023 and this development might pave the way for total disintegration in Nigeria.

“Let me advise all those jostling for the presidency in 2023 to bury their ambitions and focus on fixing some important issues in Nigeria.

“How can a president treat a certain region specifically and neglecting others? Imagine security men protecting criminal herdsmen in Nigeria.

“They have divided the country themselves; what we are waiting for is the official pronouncement from president Buhari.

“Injustice, wickedness, nepotism, selfishness and tribalism pervading Nigeria over the years. All these issues must be addressed if Nigeria wants to remain as a nation.”

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has lampooned some Yoruba leaders for being silent on herdsmen killings in the region.

He said the individuals were sitting on the fence because they want to be president in 2023.

On Sunday, the former presidential aide stated that the constitution does not grant the Fulani or anyone else the right to commit murder or turn the South-West into killing fields.

He added that the constitution also does not regard Yoruba blood as being cheaper than others and neither does it prescribe that the people are to be treated like sacrificial lamb and killed at will.

“Some Yoruba leaders want to be President or Vice President in 2023 and are therefore prepared to keep quiet and tolerate this rubbish that is being done to our people. I am not one of those leaders.”

The government critic expressed regret that influential Yorubas had betrayed their people for Northerners’ support and acceptance.

He commended Sunday Igboho, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Professor Banji Akintoye, Nnamdi Kanu, Afenifere, SOKAPU, Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) and all others that have spoken out against killer herdsmen.

Fani-Kayode noted that those who have supported or attempted to rationalise the criminal behaviour of the killers in the name of political correctness or political expediency are treacherous and shameless.

“If you are a Yoruba man and you want to be President or Vice President, I wonder whose affairs will you be presiding over and who will you lead or represent at the national level if all your people have been killed? Soon we shall start calling the collaborators and coward’s out by name”, he added.
