These Chelsea fans celebrate as Marco Van Ginkel plays his first game in 32 months
Share to Convas8

Marco Van Ginkel has been at Chelsea for a long time, but never got the chance he deserves.

Injuries have blighted his career, and hes just been out for a 32 month stretch. Its been painful to watch him all but miss out on a career. The most recent contract Chelsea gave him was a sign of solidarity as much as anything else, keeping him at the club for a further few years of rehab and then loans.

Thats why it was so great to see him back on the pitch this week. He came on as a sub for PSV tonight in his first appearance since May of 2018. Hes always been a star for them when able to play, lets hope he can get back to his best.

Chelsea fans on social media were understandably delighted, and you can see a selection of their reaction embedded here:

Hij was 983 dagen afwezig¦

Maar nu is Marco van Ginkel weer terug binnen de lijnen!#psvaz

After 2.5 years. 983 days, Marco Van Ginkel returns for PSV Eindhoven.

His injury nightmare is finally over.

congratulations Marco happy to see you back again all the best

He will get injured again soon. He will retire from his playing career at an early age.

He is damaged goods. Not sure why he hasn’t been let go yet. Probably a PR stunt for the football club to virtue signal about how ‘compassionate’ it is.
