Egyptian athlete Ahmed Elgendy made history on Saturday evening by claiming his country’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in modern pentathlon.

Elgendy has been competing in modern pentathlon at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and produced sensational performances in the tournament.

The 24-year-old set a new world record in the final with 1,555 points to claim gold in an unprecedented achievement for Egypt.

His journey to the top began four years ago after finishing second in the 2020 edition of the Olympics in Tokyo with 1516 points.

It’s worth noting that his medal is Egypt’s third in the Olympics this year after Mohamed El-Sayeds bronze in fencing and Sara Ahmed’s silver in weightlifting.

It means a lot because the last three years that Ive been competing, Ive had a lot of struggles and many physical and mental problems with injuries and pain,” said Elgendy.

“Im happy that it didnt stop me. Im happy to win at these games in 2024, with the last horse riding. Its the only gold medal (for Egypt) in this Olympic Games (so far).

“We had one bronze earlier, and one silver today in weightlifting. Im so proud to get this medal for Egypt,” he added.
