Bokkos killing: Youths demand arrest of trigger-happy soldier, release of detainees

The Bokkos Cultural Development Council Vanguard, yesterday, demanded justice for what it called the heinous and senseless murder of Mr Joseph Matindiong Jelmang in the Marish community, Bokkos Local Council of Plateau State .
 
It was learnt that the incident happened on April 22, when a trigger-happy soldier, identified simply as Gideon, allegedly fired random shots while celebrating his birthday at a relaxation centre.

According to the group, the heinous crime is utterly unacceptable and unjustifiable.
 
The group’s chairman, Farmasum Fuddang, in a statement, condemned the perpetrators’ desperate attempt to conceal the crime by falsely labeling the innocent passer-by and residents, who tried to save his life by transporting him to the hospital, as militants.
 
“This deceitful action has resulted in mass arrests and is an egregious affront to justice and humanity.
 
“We demand the swift and decisive action of the military authorities and the state’s Attorney General in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law.

“We also demand the immediate release of all those arrested by soldiers in Marish both on April 22 and the previous days.

“Justice must prevail and such barbaric acts must not go unpunished in our society.”
 
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased, and we stand in solidarity with the community in seeking justice for this tragic loss,” the group said.
