In its commitment to leaving no one behind in accessing quality healthcare services through GIFSHIP, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Edo State, embarked on an outdoor social marketing campaign with a raffle draw contest to Osa Market (Ekiosa) in the Benin metropolis, where four market women won a GIFSHIP enrolmemt access.

Following, the NHIA State Coordinator, Edo State, Amb. Theodore Osa Ehannire, in company of staff of Edo State NHIA, was delighted to present to the recipients – their letter of verification to access healthcare for the period of one year as part of Edo NHIA Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

In his address during the presentation ceremony at the Edo State NHIA office, Sapele Road, Benin City, the NHIA State Coordinator, Edo State, stated that the Group Individuals Family Social Health Insurance Program (GIFSHIP) stands as a transformative initiative aimed at providing comprehensive and affordable health insurance coverage for individuals, families, and social groups in Edo.

Ehannire noted that the GIFSHIP membership is open to individuals of all age groups and foreigners residing in Nigeria.

“It is funded through contributions made by interested individuals, families, and groups. The contribution structure is as follows: individual subscribers contribute N45,000 per year and can include two direct dependents. Families contribute N60,000 per year, with additional dependents beyond the initial two enrolled at a rate of N15,000 each.

“Groups must consist of a minimum of ten members, except for small-scale enterprises with fewer than five employees, who contribute N15,000 per person annually,” he said.

According to Ehannire, “These contribution rates are subject to revision by the NHIA as necessary. A 60-day waiting period is in place before contributors can access care, allowing the authorities to complete the administrative processes required for participation and mitigating adverse selection.”

It is pertinent to state that GIFSHIP represents a vital step towards ensuring that every citizen in Edo State has access to quality healthcare services without financial constraints.
