Arewa group cautions Atiku over criticism of Lagos-Calabar highway

A northern group, Arewa Advocates for Good Governance (AAGG), has warned the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar not to mislead Nigerians with his utterances, regarding the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.

The former Vice president had earlier criticized the road project, alleging that President Tinubu’s son, Seyi is an executive member of the firm that secured the coastal road contract.

Addressing the press at a conference in Kaduna, Jamilu Mato, the National Chairman of the group called on the former vice president and the 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) to show level of understanding about the good policies of the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu led-administration.

While urging the former vice president to put behind the defeat he suffered in the last elections, Mato also called on him to join hands with President Tinubu in his quest to move the country forward.

Mato also noted that the Tinubu government plans to connect the six -geo-political zones in the country with a network of roads that would foster a more secure, safer and sustainable transportation system.

“The coastal road would connect the South-West, South-South, North-East, North-West and North-Central regions of Nigeria when completed,” he added.

While stating that roads construction across the country has the potential to attract foreign investment and contribute to a stronger Naira, Mato commended Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi for championing the transformative project.

He explained that in less than a year, under Senator Umahi’s leadership, the Ministry of Works has exemplified excellence and innovation, laying the foundation for sustainable development and progress.

Similarly, another group identified as Forum For Good Governance (FGGN) who lauded the coastal road initiative also faulted the former vice president’s Atiku for castigating the project.

The Forum in a press release jointly signed by its National Coordinator and Secretary; Comrade Abraham Douglas and Comrade Bala Galadima Ikara defended the president’s son Seyi, stating that for fact his father is the President should not deny him the access to pursue legitimate business interests within and outside the country.

According to the forum, Seyi joined the Board of Directors of CDK in 2018 as an investor “with a good record of performance and capacity.”
