14 suspected cultists remanded in jail for culpable homicide in Kwara

An Ilorin Magistrate’s court, yesterday, remanded 14 suspected cultists for allegedly attacking three family members -Basheer, Kareem and Quadri Onimangos of Onimango compound, Ilorin, in the correctional facility.

An Ilorin Magistrate’s court, yesterday, remanded 14 suspected cultists for allegedly attacking three family members -Basheer, Kareem and Quadri Onimangos of Onimango compound, Ilorin, in the correctional facility.

The suspects are Mustapha Onide, Abdulmalik Abdulfatai, Kehinde Onimango, Ahmed Onide and Tunde Onide.

Others are Jimoh Sapo, Ibrahim Onide, Abdulgafar Fatai, Abdulrasak Abubakar, Yusuf Onimango and Hammed Onimango, Hussein Bello, Adam Olanrewaju and Jimoh Olayinka.

They were arraigned before the court for culpable homicide, amongst other capital offences.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that the complainants, while dripping from injuries sustained after an attack, reported at a police station that they were victims for inquiring why N6,000 transaction at a Point of Sale (POS) with one Ibrahim Rasheed was unsuccessful.

The FIR added that the suspects descended on the trio, insulting and assaulting them and in the process, carted away phones valued at N2.3million, one Rolex watch, N500,000 cash as well as vandalised their vehicles.

It further stated that the suspects and others at large are members of Aye and Eiye confraternities, who recently went on rampage, attacked, maimed and killed innocent people as well as destroyed properties in Ilorin and environs.

In his ruling, Magistrate Issa Agbetola refused bail plea by their counsels and ordered that they be remanded in correctional facility till May 8, 2024.
