Taraba monarch slain in palace attack

Sansani town, the headquarters of Sansani chiefdom in Gassol local government area of Taraba state, has been thrown into a state of mourning as unidentified gunmen carried out a brazen attack, claiming the life of monarch Abdulmutalib Jankada.

Sources close to the matter said the attack occurred on Thursday inside the monarch’s palace at about 9:00 pm.

According to reports, the gunmen riding motorcycles, approached Sansani town under the cover of darkness.

“They strategically parked their motorcycles at a distance from the palace before silently infiltrating the premises and fatally shooting the monarch,” an eyewitness said.

Eyewitnesses recounted the swift and stealthy nature of the attack, noting that the monarch succumbed to his wounds on the spot.

Shockingly, the palace guards and family members were said to be unaware of the intrusion until the fatal shots rang out.

Musa Sansani, a resident of the town, lamented over the confusion and fear that gripped the community as gunshots pierced the night air.

He revealed that the assailants swiftly departed the scene after carrying out their deadly mission.

Sansani said it was only when the Chief’s wife discovered his lifeless body in his room and raised the alarm for the full extent of the tragedy became apparent, drawing mourners from across the chiefdom.

“We are in mourning, and the late chief will be laid to rest following Friday prayers in his palace today,” Sansani stated.

Speaking with The Guardian, police spokesperson Gambo Kwache promised to provide details of the attack.
