Unity Schools’ Old Student Association (USOSA) has announced plan to hold second edition of its sports carnival for 42 of its members.
President General of the Association, Michael Magaji, at a news conference in Abuja, said the carnival will be used to promote nationhood, togetherness and social cohesion.
He announced that a Golf tournament has been integrated into the competition to help those aging.
Tagged: “Reigniting Unity in Diversity ”, Magaji said the carnival will commence from April 22 and end on April 27, and 42 schools have indicated interest to participate in 14 games competitions.
“We are using the sports platform as a tool to showcase unity, nationhood, and social cohesion among USOSANS and non-USOSANS. The sports carnival is expected to bring old students of diverse Unity Schools together to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship and to promote harmony as well as peaceful co-existence, irrespective of ethnicity, religious as well as political affiliation.
Chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the event, Muhammed Mustapha, said games to be competed include; tennis, golf, cricket, basketball and more, adding that so
far, 30 Unity Schools have registered for the sporting event.
Mustapha called for partnership from sports stakeholders and other well-meaning Nigerians in the usage of sports to uplift the nation.
He, however, said there would be no age limit in the various sports competitions ranging from badminton, volleyball, tug of war, sack race, veteran race, among others
