Okuama: Oborevwori inaugurates IDP management committee

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, inaugurated the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Management Committee for displaced people of Okuama Community, in Ughelli South Local Council, charging them to carefully plan the resettlement and rehabilitation of the innocent citizens of the community.

The nine-member committee is chaired by a veteran journalist and former Editor of The Guardian Newspaper, Abraham Ogbodo, while the Director of Personnel Management (DPM), Ughelli South Local Council, Austin Emaduku, serves as Secretary.

Other members include Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, Festus Utuama, Reuben Izeze, Dr. Richard Kofi, Oviri Uto, Josephine Oduaran, Obukohwo Henry Ediyo, Karo Ovemeso and Austin Ohwofaria, who will serve as Camp Commandant.

While inaugurating the committee at the Government House Asaba, Oborevwori charged the committee to carefully plan and coordinate the resettlement and rehabilitation of the people at Okuama.

Expressing disappointment over the killings of the 17 soldiers in Okuama Community, the governor said: “Much as we condemned, in strong terms, the dastardly act that took the lives of our gallant officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, we will do everything we can to reduce, to the barest minimum, the attendant effects on the common man in Okuama Community.”

He described the incident as an unfortunate and most unexpected development, because innocent people have been displaced, and their homes and property destroyed.

He added: “The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as the military, agreed that innocent people in Okuama should not be made to suffer needlessly.

“This is why we sincerely believe that sooner than later, the innocent ones will be allowed to return to their homes.”
