The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) has commenced its annual mandatory development training programme for graduates, Chartered and Fellow members of the institute.
At the event, the Registrar and CEO of the institute, Prof. Mohammed Aliyu, in his keynote paper titled: ” The Role of Procurement and Supply Management as a Value Driver in Business and Governance”, called on members to be suspicious of irregularities and abide by due process mechanisms anchored on best practices, principles, process, professionalism, policies and procedures.
Emphasising the need to allow professionals due the job, the Registrar said procurement and supply chain management has always been the foundation of national economic development and thus deserve to be entrusted in the hands of people professional and not all comers.
He said, “The understanding of procurement and supply chain management principles, practices, processes, policies and procedures is crucial to the development and sustainment of systems and equipment in all areas of our lives.
“Thus, procurement encompasses activities directed at improving national economy operations management and human social conditions, alleviating human and good governance distress cum other problems Procurement and supply chain management professionals are caring professionals when it comes to, working with other functional areas to enhance their needs, objectives and promoting wellbeing in terms of good life and government service delivery and objectives anchored on the classic definition of procurement seven Rs.”
According to him, the 7 Rs and 4 others are the Right Product, in the Right Quantity, from the Right source, to the Right destination, in the Right condition, at the Right place, at the Right time.
Others are the Right documentation, for the Right customer, at the Right cost, of the items and handled by Right qualified procurement professionals for the purpose of ensuring due process and value for money.
Prof Aliyu submitted that trained Nigerian procurement and supply chain management professionals can be logically described as the live wires for good governance, efficient service delivery, productivity and the king pin to make the country self-reliant.
He assured members that the institute will not rest until it takes its rightful position by professionalising the procurement function in Nigeria.
Earlier, the President of the institute, Alhaji Sikiru Balogun explained that the pursuit of continuous improvement and professional advancement is sine qua non for any discerning mind in a world characterised by rapid change and relentless innovations.
He emphasised that the mandatory training programme represents a commitment to staying ahead of the curve, to adaptability and to the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Balogun added, “Over the course of this programme, we will delve into a diverse range of topics, spanning from technical skills to leadership development, from communication strategies to creative problem-solving.”
He encouraged each and every participant to approach the programme with an open mind and willingness to engage fully, embrace the challenges, ask questions and actively participate in discussions.
The second presentation titled:” Procurement Audit As A Control Tool For Combatting Procurement Related Fraud And Corruption”, was delivered by
Adebayo Ayoade.
He described Procurement audit as a systematic examination of procurement activities, processes, and controls to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
The event continues on Saturday with the induction of members.
