Ashanti Announces Pregnancy, Engagement to Nelly

Grammy-winning singers Ashanti and Nelly have revealed that they are expecting their first child together and have officially gotten engaged.
Ashanti and Nelly’s love story spans over two decades. They first crossed paths at a Grammy Awards press conference in 2003. Back then, Ashanti playfully gave Nelly her autograph. This encounter led to them dating.
Their relationship remained private through the mid-2010s, but they eventually split in 2015.
Fast forward to 2021, during Ja Rule and Fat Joe’s Verzuz battle, Ashanti and Nelly unexpectedly reunited onstage, starting rumours of a reconciliation.
The chemistry was undeniable, and fans wondered if their love story was getting a second chance.
In September 2023, Nelly finally confirmed what fans had been speculating. During an interview on the Boss Moves with Rasheeda show, he said, “Yeah. We cool again. I think it surprised both of us, though.
“It wasn’t anything that was, like, I don’t think planned. I think we both were pretty much doing what we do. But sometimes being separate, you understand one another more.” The two were officially dating once again.
Now, in 2024, Ashanti has shared her the news of her pregnancy with the world. In an Instagram video, the singer gets ready for a performance, and when asked how much time she needs, she playfully responds, “I’m gonna need about nine months.”
The baby will be Ashanti’s first and Nelly’s third child. Nelly has adult children, Chanelle and Cornell Haynes III, from a previous relationship, and he also adopted his sister Jackie Donahue’s kids, Shawn and Sydney Thomas, after she passed away in 2005.
