Clubs are set to receive a significant boost ahead of the summer transfer window as Nigerian international goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali is reportedly on the verge of becoming a free agent.

According to a report from South African publication Soccer Luduma, Nwabali has declined to extend his contract with Chippa United, leaving him available on a free transfer once his current deal expires in less than three months.

Having joined Chippa United in October 2022 from Nigeria Premier Football League side Katsina United, Nwabali is now in his second year with the South African club. Despite initially lacking recognition among Nigerian fans, his standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast elevated his status, turning him into a revered figure among supporters.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has garnered interest from various clubs including English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Saudi club El-Ettifaq, and South African giants Kaiser Chiefs.

In spite of speculations about potential moves, Nwabali revealed that he has not received any official offers from local or foreign clubs. As he prepares to conclude his tenure with Chippa United, his focus remains on helping the club progress in the Nedbank Cup.

“And they can’t approach me because it would be unprofessional. They must go to my club or my manager. So, I don’t know if there’s something on the table, maybe waiting for summer or transfer window. You know most clubs always do this. When they show interest, you’re opening the way to some other clubs.

“So, some people always keep it a secret, and when they get you, they get you once. For now, I know nothing,” Nwabali revealed.

There are indications that Stanley Nwabali is gearing up for a potential transfer to Europe this summer, given his decision not to renew his contract with Chippa United.

In the meantime, the club has shifted its focus to Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori as a potential replacement.

Ofori’s contract with Orlando Pirates is also set to conclude at the end of the season, and it’s anticipated that he will seek new opportunities elsewhere.
