Operatives of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, (BSCVG) have arrested three suspects, including a black marketer, for stealing AGO, popularly knowns as Diesel from TRIACTA construction company, at New GRA Makurdi.
The three suspects were arrested Sunday night at the site where network of road is being constructed near Governor Hyacinth Alia residence.
They were caught after they had siphoned diesels from the heavy duty trucks into Jerry cans and was attempting to transport them into a waiting vehicle.
Parading the suspects, commander of state community volunteer guard, Captain Ayuma Ajobi, (rtd) the act was carried out with the help of a saboteur who was an insider.
He said such act must not be allowed to happened at all, as Governor Alia – led government frowns as such illicit acts.
Ajobi says the state community volunteer guards are well trained and that the arrest of these suspects is a testament of their effort in the state.
He said the operatives are on the trail of four other suspects involved in the shaddy deal, assuring that after investigation, the suspects would be handed to the appropriate authority for prosecution .
He warned all those bent on engaging in criminal activities to desist from it or be ready to face the law.
The Chief Security Officer of Triacta Construction Company, Benjamin Atsaga, lamented that this was not first time the company is experiencing that kind of situation.
“The first was in October 2023 with connivance of staff who were later dismissed, and the main culprit pleaded and was let go.
“Today “I am surprised to discover that the same person who was arrested on similar crime for stealing and selling diesel is one of the suspects arrested today. He is a black marketer and he has done this so many times,” he said.
The Intelligence officer of Community Volunteer guard, Emmanuel Ogbu, said one of the the suspects, Mohammed Adamu, a black market dealer attempted to bribe his boys who rejected the sum of N70,000, offered as bribe to let him off the hook.
The two suspects, Mohammed Adamu, and Peter Zaki, spoke to newsmen during the parade, said they were called by some staff of the company to buy diesel that they have diesel to sell as they needed money to buy food and eat.
“I conceded after much pleas and was arrested at the point of trying to pay for the diesel. I am innocent,” Adamu said.
Meanwhile, the Project Manger of Triacta, Engineer Nabil Nasser, who explained they are currently constructing sixteen roads in Makurdi, expressed worries over continuous theft of diesel from the company since last year by one Mohammed Adamu, who was arrested and later freed by the police.
“T, he is caught again in our company on same crime, I am tired, “I want the him jailed,” he said.
